Wd 324 in Dunedin yard 1910-1920

Wd 324, Dunedin district 1910-1920. PHOTO: unknown, Hugh McCracken Collection 097.

Wd 324 entered service in July 1901 at Dunedin, one of two Wd class allocated to the city1. Wd 324 was based at Dunedin for most of her working life. Unlike some of the other members of the Wd class there are a good number of photographs of the locomotive. One of four allocated to Dunedin for a good many years, common workings included the Lawrence Branch, suburban runs to Port Chalmers and Mosgiel, and the Walton Park and Outram branches.

In latter years the loco was confined to shunting before final withdrawal from service in 1933.

The March 1998 issue of "New Zealand Railfan" contains further notes and photographs of Wd 324.
